Hymn Notes
Hymn 362: Holy, Holy, Holy
Today we celebrate two sacred mysteries: the Trinity, and marriage in the blessing of
Barbara’s and Roger’s vows. These two mysteries are far apart: both are about relationships
that we can never fully comprehend, but can only live into more deeply every day.
Augustine said that God could be understood as Lover, Beloved, and Loving: those three
bind marriage and community together as well. So we sing this great Trinitarian paraphrase
of Isaiah’s vision in the temple, proclaiming God’s glory and presence and love, and seeking
God’s grace to live it out in all our relations. Blessings, Barbara and Roger!-- Donna Wessel

• Civil Marriage of Barbara Mackey and Roger King: The Rev. Alan Gibson will bless the
civil marriage of Barbara Mackey and Roger King at St. Andrew’s at the 10:00 am service on
Sunday, May 26. They particularly desire that the parish join them in this joyous occasion.
They would also like to invite those who are able to join them at an open house that
afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at their home [1510 Westfield, Ann Arbor (off of Stadium)].
The Rev. Joe Summers will bless the house at 3:00 pm. While they recognize that gifts are
customary at marriages, they respectfully request that the tradition not be followed for
them. A donation to The Breakfast at St. Andrew’s or to the OASIS ministry in their honor
would be most welcome, however.
• The Church Office will be closed Monday, May 27. Starting Tuesday, May 28, Summer
Office Hours will be in effect. The church office will be open 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, Monday -
Friday. Phone messages will be checked until 4:00 pm, Monday - Thursday.
• Organ Campaign Planning Study Executive Summary: In January, the vestry engaged
Richner & Richner, LLC to conduct a Campaign Planning Study to determine the feasibility of
the proposed Organ Project. To view or download the Executive Summary of this study
please click here. Please keep the vestry in your prayers as they review the findings of this
Study. Comments to the vestry may be sent to clerkofthevestry@standrewsaa.org. Your
input is greatly appreciated.
• Memorial Day Eucharist: On Monday, May 27, a Eucharist will be offered in the church
at 10:00 am in observance of Memorial Day. If you have not previously submitted names of
loved ones who died in the armed services you may do so by calling the church office.
Names of individuals submitted in previous years will be remembered at this service.
• Special Sunday Forum: During World War II, Fr. Lew served as a Yeoman in the U.S.
Navy Seabees. This past March he returned to the island of Peleliu (Palau island chain,
Western Pacific) where he lived for 15 months following the invasion of the island in
September 1944. At the Forum on Sunday, June 2, he will talk about his naval experience
and his return to the Western Pacific islands. You are invited to come for this final forum
before the summer break.
• The Ann Arbor Marathon will be run on Sunday, June 9. This is the same day as our
Recognition Sunday! If you live along the marathon route or if you take Main, State,
Geddes, Stadium or Fuller Road to get to St. Andrew’s - all of those roads (and several
others) will have periodic closures during the morning. To find out if you will need a different
route check out the marathon race course map.
