The Breakfast at St. Andrew's

About the Breakfast at St. Andrew's

For over 27 years, men and women in need have made their way to St. Andrew’s in the early hours of the morning, in all seasons, for a cup of coffee and a hot breakfast. Some are struggling with the hardships of poverty; some are homeless; others are in transition and recovering from life’s setbacks. All are welcome. The heart and soul of the Breakfast at St. Andrew’s is belief in the gifts and responsibilities of community and commitment to the role each of us can play in extending a compassionate hand. A smile, an hour of time, an individual donation or an organizational contribution: all of these are equally necessary and welcome to keep our doors open and the coffee hot.

7 days a week, 365 days a year
Though we would all like to believe otherwise, the numbers and needs of hungry people in our community continue to increase. Even in the best financial climates, many are left behind and need a helping hand. For twenty-six years, a free breakfast has been served at St. Andrew's, 365 days a year, to anyone who comes to our door. As many as 150 people arrive between 7:30am and 8:30am for a cup of coffee, a hot breakfast and fellowship. We are a non-profit organization, the only program in the Ann Arbor community serving a meal without charge, every day, at the same time and place.

Our Mission
We reach out to all with love and respect. Each person who walks through our doors is invited to join us at the breakfast table to begin the day in the company of others, sharing a meal, enjoying fellowship and conversation.

What’s for breakfast?

Coffee and tea, juice, fruit, cold cereal with milk, hot oatmeal and grits, hard boiled eggs, toast with butter, peanut butter and jelly, and assorted baked goods. Lunch bags are available so guests can prepare sandwiches for later in the day.

Who are the volunteers?
Our volunteers come from all walks of life. Some have been part of the Breakfast at St. Andrew’s since it began; others participate regularly, or as their schedules allow. Many young people begin their first experience in community service with us. For information about volunteering, visit the Volunteer Opportunities page.

How is the program funded?
We are supported by contributions from individuals, groups, and organizations. We receive donations in food from Food Gatherers and individual restaurants and bakeries. Because our program is conducted daily by the generous contributions of volunteers, 100% of the funds we receive are used to support direct services and maintenance costs.
