Living into Faith through Service

2017 Outreach Grant Applications Now Available

The 2017 Outreach Grant deadline is March 31, 2017.

We focus on supporting organizations that provide basic human needs, including shelter, health care, nutrition and fellowship, or address the root causes of suffering, including poverty and social injustice. We especially appreciate requests from organizations with an existing personal connection to St. Andrew's and its parishioners. Our grants generally range from $250 - $2,500.

The St. Andrew's Outreach Ministry seeks ways to support the mission of the church (both St. Andrew's and the national church) by identifying volunteer opportunities for parishioners, coordinating activities to raise awareness for a variety of causes, and organizing drives. Additionally, we provide financial grants to local organizations whose mission is aligned with our own.

Popular outreach activities include:

  • - A co-operative annual gift giving program with the Ann Arbor Community Center
  • - Semi Annual Food Drives
  • - Mitten & Glove Drive in December
  • - Socks and Footcare Drive in the Spring
  • - Rotating Shelter in January
  • - Habitat for Humanity
  • - CROP Walk
  • - Community Gardens
  • - Volunteering at the Breakfast

Refugee Relief

Some refugees are struggling to get established in their new American life. The low paying entry level jobs they got during their three months of agency assistance just do not cover even the basics like rent. Anything unexpected, from illness to a change in the weather, can trigger a crisis. Refugees ("New Americans") sometimes need some help paying for necessities and gift cards are a great answer. They enable refugees to select and pay for exactly what they need, rather than a donated item that may or may not fit or be useful. Just as important, a gift card offers the dignity of managing on their own.

The most useful cards are from the lower priced stores with large selections such as Meijer's, Walmart or Target, gas cards for getting to work and generic gift cards like Visa and Mastercard (typically $50) are helpful for paying bills and other necessities. If you are willing to donate please bring gift cards (typically $50) to the church office.

Please note we are no longer collecting children's winter jackets and boots as the closet at Temple Beth Israel is full.

Thank you for your support for our new neighbors.
